Responsibilities

Your Role:

The Automation Specialist is responsible for being the subject matter expert in automation tools and processes at the facility.  This position will help RCP to improve our operating tools through review, testing, repair, and maintenance of all equipment, systems, tools and processes within the designated plant.

  • Operate in a safe and effective manner in accordance to established Safety Rules and Good Manufacturing Practices / GMP. Maintain a clean and organized departmental work area. 
  • Set-up, troubleshoot, and monitor packaging equipment while maintaining low scrap and on time set-ups. 
  • Optimize machines and equipment to maintain high production levels 
  • Monitor equipment during production run to adhere to quality guidelines and customer specifications. 
  • Perform mechanical, and pneumatic repairs with maintenance department assistance on more complex task. 
  • Reports general condition of equipment and recommends repair/service when necessary. 
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and lead approved projects within the plant to attain desired goals. 
  • Completes routine equipment inspection, lubrication, and proactive maintenance tasks. 
  • Prepare documentation and procedures for the new solutions, systems or equipment for the required paperwork / records in the Automation / Packaging Department. 
  • Comply at all times with company requirements for health, safety, and environmental requirements.  
  • Work with Maintenance Supervisor to coordinate outside contractors as needed for approved projects. 
  • Work with plant personnel to identify savings and justification for projects. 
  • Responsible for creation and control of tooling, templates and change parts for all packaging equipment. 
  • Test new software systems or equipment to be used in automation processes to ensure it meets the plant’s needs. 
  • In locations where applicable, responsible for complying with the SQF and GMP practices and programs to ensure safe food packaging product and to report food safety problems to those with authority to act.

Qualifications

We need you to have:
  • Associate’s degree.
  • 5+ years previous experience in industrial maintenance and machinery setups in a production environment.  
  • MS Office. 
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal. 
  • Ability to translate technical information to non-technical audience. 
  • Troubleshooting and repair of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic machinery. 
  • Strong analytical and mechanical skills. 
  • Project management skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to use hand tools.   
  • Skilled in Lock-out / Tag-out safe work practices.
  • Must be team-oriented with the ability to work on high collaboration and performance teams. 

Icing on the cake:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • PLC and AC/DC drive experience.
